COMMUNITY,
ACTIVISM AND THE DOWNTOWN SCENE
an independent documentary about the experimental scene in New York
SYNOPSIS
Capturing a crucial moment just before the election that would grant George
Bush his new mandate, this documentary shows the changes in the social,
political, cultural and aesthetics arenas during the last four decades
in the attempt to understand how geographical artistic migration, the
role of community, the feminist activism, AIDS and the economy have transformed
the experimental scene in New York. The 110 minute-length film was recorded
with a handcam in 2004 by Cristiane Bouger.
The documentary features an original soundtrack by Wandula, editing by
Magno Borgo and subtitles translation by the scholar Margarida Gandara
Rauen.
